Why You Make Choices in Life
The biggest movements in our lives are governed by our deepest stories.
Those who have an unwavering devotion to a higher power, will be making choices in their lives in line with that devotion.
Those who embrace scientific materialism will make choices that come rom that view.
Most people have not thoroughly investigated this for themselves.
Questions that help us understand what our beliefs are:
Why am I alive?
What is life about?
Why do things happen?
What’s most important to me in my life?
The first two are very difficult to answer. This is why we have the great stories and mythologies. We have these answers buried deep within our minds... programmed into us along the way... but not always available to us consciously.
We make decisions about almost everything ultimately from these deep, unconscious programs.
It’s worth asking these questions again and again to see where you are. Bring your deepest stories to your conscious awareness to see if your actions and your true beliefs are aligned.
If not, you may be suffering with discontent and anxiety.
Other questions to consider:
What is success?
How do I know if I’m succeeding?
What do I want to do/achieve before I die?
We don’t really ask or answer these questions very often. We should.
So we have a difficult time answering:
Why am I still in this job?
What do i want my next job to be?”
Should I compromise my dreams and desires for a good salary and benefits?
If you don’t know why you’re alive, what you’re supposed to be doing, or what success really is, how are you going to make a good decision about what you do for most of your days?
